Where it began...
In early 2021, Michelle and her husband Grant purchased the old Vet Centre at 702 Port Road, Whangmatā, and so began a conversation around what they would convert it into.
After a short time, a decision was made to use the rear of the building for Grant's engineering and Michelle's consultancy businesses, and to convert the old clinic area into a gallery.
Soon after there were builders, floor layers, painters and electricians on site, resulting in a fresh look and feel that celebrates the beautiful original features of the property.
The store coming to life...
In terms of inventory, it was clear to Michelle and Grant from the get-go that they would focus on New Zealand art and New Zealand made, with a huge desire to get to know the artists and makers represented in the Gallery.
The next decision was the gallery's name - Bask was an easy choice because of how well aligned it is to lying in the sun in Whangamatā.
The dream is a reality...
Since opening, Michelle has sourced a vibrant, eclectic and thoughtfully curated range of art and complementary products.
If you are living, holidaying or travelling through Whangamatā, then Michelle would love to see you. If by chance the Gallery is closed, then it could be because she is on a road-trip to source new stock, or she's at a meeting helping her clients with their marketing and strategic endeavours. In such circumstances, you are welcome to text her and she will see if she can arrange a personal opening of the gallery for you.
